Something like 15% of American citizens believe Barack Obama is Muslim.  Including the woman in this video.  But I'm not posting this clip to make fun of her.  I mean, the woman does say she's a Hillary supporter!  (Okay, maybe I'm making a bit of fun. )

At any rate, even when it has nothing to do with her, it sort of feels like Sarah Palin week continues here on the Head Tale.  In fact, in a different multiverse, I think Sarah Palin could've been the woman in this clip.  And by the way, did you ever notice that Sarah Palin is an anagram for Sarah Plain?  Didya?  (Er, also "PS Anal Hair" )

Yet more follow-up on the "Sarah Palin attempted to ban books" story - this one a bit more legitimate sounding than the last one

"The author of the book Sarah Palin reportedly tried to have removed from her hometown library blasted back Saturday evening, saying the Alaska Governor had a "small-town mind," was an enemy of intellectual freedom and a "disastrous choice" for vice president."

And the New York Times does the vetting that John McCain apparently failed to do (or didn't care about what they found) with the results being not unexpected.  This story includes more on the book banning story...

"The new mayor [Palin] also tended carefully to her evangelical base. She appointed a pastor to the town planning board. And she began to eye the library. For years, social conservatives had pressed the library director to remove books they considered immoral.

“People would bring books back censored,” recalled former Mayor John Stein, Ms. Palin’s predecessor. “Pages would get marked up or torn out.”

Witnesses and contemporary news accounts say Ms. Palin asked the librarian about removing books from the shelves. The McCain-Palin presidential campaign says Ms. Palin never advocated censorship.

But in 1995, Ms. Palin, then a city councilwoman, told colleagues that she had noticed the book “Daddy’s Roommate” on the shelves and that it did not belong there, according to Ms. Chase and Mr. Stein. Ms. Chase read the book, which helps children understand homosexuality, and said it was inoffensive; she suggested that Ms. Palin read it.

“Sarah said she didn’t need to read that stuff,” Ms. Chase said. “It was disturbing that someone would be willing to remove a book from the library and she didn’t even read it.”"

Pretty funny clip and Damon does mention the thing about her banning books so that's cool!  Oh, but if you've seen an e-mail flying around supposedly listing the books she tried to ban, that's false.

Too bad but if you look at the list, it basically looks like the ALA's "
100 Most Challenged Books of the Last Decade" list, that's probably not a surprise.  My guess is that the more likely story is that she tried to a few books that didn't conform to her religious views.

Earlier this week, I posted that John McCain had picked "sexy librarian" as his running mate.  (If we're going with librarian stereotypes, we should also mention that McCain personifies "Grumpy Old Man", Obama is "Keener Weiner" and Biden is "that one city councilor who supports the library but probably never sets foot in the door".)

Anyhow, I have to issue a retraction.  Apparently Sarah Palin is as far from sexy librarian as you can get.

Stein says that as mayor, Palin continued to inject religious beliefs into her policy at times. "She asked the library how she could go about banning books," he says, because some voters thought they had inappropriate language in them. "The librarian was aghast." That woman, Mary Ellen Baker, couldn't be reached for comment, but news reports from the time show that Palin had threatened to fire Baker for not giving "full support" to the mayor.

Oh, and Palin's in full favour of abstinence education programs too!
